Scotland's first Alcohol Awareness Week runs from 21ñ27 October 2007, and is one of the initiatives under the Government's partnership agreement with the alcohol industry. It is a joint programme of events in which Government, the alcohol industry, health professionals and the voluntary sector are working together to provide useful information to members of the public and promote a joined up message about responsible consumption of alcohol.

Tayside Fire and Rescue continue to stress the importance of being safe whilst under the influence of alcohol. In year 2007/08 and bearing in mind we are only six months into the calendar year, alcohol has been a contributory factor in 60% of the fire deaths in Tayside. A common trend over recent years has resulted in the ëMajority of Fire Deaths in Tayside are Alcohol Relatedí. We are urging all the communities of Tayside not to fuel fire with alcohol.

Tayside Fire and Rescue would like to put across the following points: If you have been drinking"–leave the cooker off! " Nearly two-thirds of domestic fires are the result of cooking. The risk increases dramatically if youíve been drinking Make sure your cigarette is out, RIGHT OUT.! ñ Itís all too easy to fall asleep or not notice a cigarette is still burning.
