'Fun Boy', presenter Andy Robbie from Radio Tay, will this evening, Friday 28 May launch a new social, fun and educational disco project for primary sevens in the Arbroath area. The project has been developed over the recent months and children from some of the local primary schools have competed to design a logo for the project. One of the main attractions of the disco for the children has been the installation of a giant 60's style disco glitterball.

'Cafe Clubland' has been established by the Focus on Alcohol Angus project with involvement of a range of local partners; Angus Council's Community Learning and Development Service, Tayside Council on Alcohol, the Community Safety Partnership and the Education Department. Local parents have been trained to volunteer at the activity. Robert Peat, Chair of the Angus Alcohol and Drugs Partnership stated: "I am delighted we have, through the Focus on Alcohol Angus Project been able to establish this disco activity for children. It encompasses, in a fun and educational way, alcohol awareness for the children in Arbroath.

"It is important that we recognise that the earlier we inform and equip children with alcohol awareness, the earlier we have the opportunity to help them to take more informed choices around alcohol as it is introduced into their lives. We know that there are children who reach secondary school who will experiment with alcohol and are put under pressure to do this, perhaps by their peers or older children. This project will hopefully help the children to think twice about drinking alcohol and the consequences it can have."

He continued: "I am confident that this early approach will help the children to build their confidence and awareness around alcohol and help them as they grow and develop in the future."

Norrie Stein, Director of the Cafe Project commented: "The Cafe Project is a welcoming environment for children and we are please to have worked with such a wide range of partner agencies to take forward this much needed project."
