The SHOUT group (Support & Help Others Understand and Talk) is to produce a training dvd to highlight awareness of issues for people with learning disabilities and alcohol. The two year project - the first of its kind in Scotland - is initiated by Focus on Alcohol Angus and funded by the Robertson Trust. SHOUT will produce a training DVD to highlight awareness around learning disabilities and issues associated with alcohol. It will also develop a range of information leaflets and cards to be distributed to people with learning disabilities and help those people with learning disabilities to understand alcohol issues which can affect them.

Chairperson of SHOUT John Linton said: "We are delighted to be part of this project which will help others to be safer when drinking alcohol in their homes as well as in their local pub, and we will also provide information about getting home safely after a night out. "It is important that we highlight the problems which can occur when people have too much too drink, and we hope that by making people more aware of safe alcohol consumption, this will prevent problems arising. We are also happy to be working with pubs and clubs by supporting them to accommodate people with learning disabilities in a positive way."

Eileen McArthur of Focus on Alcohol Angus said: "The Robertson Trust has kindly offered support of £15,000 over a two year period for this project and this is much appreciated. We acknowledge that to tackle alcohol problems we must support all members of our community in Angus. "This project is exciting as it's the first of its kind in Scotland for individuals who have learning disabilities. The education and training resources being developed by the SHOUT members will be promoted at a national level, and we are delighted that the licensed trade in Angus is keen to work with the group to develop the project."

Anne Pearson from the Robertson trust presented a cheque to SHOUT group members at the Angus Volunteer Centre in Arbroath on Wednesday evening.
