Angus College Skillzone students have been learning the art of mixing a good "mocktail". The technique of shaking up a delicious non-alcoholic drink is being passed on by the Focus on Alcohol Angus Project with the help of Simon Bailey from the Oyster Bar in Arbroath. The project is designed to show young people how non-alcoholic drinks can be just as much fun and safer than alcohol. Project Manager for Focus on Alcohol Angus, Eileen McArthur says, "We aim to focus on young people as one of the priority groups with which we work. By doing this, we are encouraging the next generation of adults, of which 98% will drink alcohol, to take informed choices about what they drink to enjoy themselves."
Simon Bailey of the Oyster Bar says ,"I'm delighted to help. Making and shaking Mocktail concoctions is an activity that is growing in popularity with young people across Angus and it's the kind of fun that encourages young people to try making attractive non alcoholic drinks. I hope the students take the ideas and recipes home to try with their families." SkillZone course leader, Marie Stewart agrees. "The Skillzone course aims to help young people focus on career choices and develop the confidence and ambition to progress. Alcohol can develop into a real problem for young people, but dynamic demonstrations like these can put a different light on drinking and show how much fun can be had without alcohol."
The Focus on Alcohol Angus project is a partnership of Angus Council, NHS Tayside and Tayside Police which highlights awareness of the dangers of alcohol.
