Drama supports Alcohol Awareness Week

A drama highlighting a woman's alcohol problem and the effects it can have on a person's life is being staged in Angus during Alcohol Awareness Week. Following the success of the one woman play 'Acceptance', which was shown earlier this year to Angus Council and Tayside Police employees, the Angus Drug and Alcohol Action Team have been working with actress and writer Lisa Nicoll to produce a follow up show. 'Maybe This Time I'll Dance' is the follow up story that shows how Scarlet, the character in the play, has decided to give up drinking alcohol and consequently moves back to her parents. Giving up alcohol brings many challenges to her across social occasions and also impinges on the ongoing attempts to find a boyfriend and to feel loved. In the past Scarlet has relied on alcohol to give her confidence.
Chair of the Tayside Alcohol Awareness Co-ordinating Group Eileen McArthur said: "The story is a moving one where Scarlet reflects on her growing up and her previous encounters with alcohol, and how Scarlet has grown to accept her life can be possible without alcohol. It is a powerful story about positive, personal change." The play is being shown at Angus Council's headquarters at Angus House, Forfar on Friday 10 October from 1.15-1.45pm.
