Public Information for the Focus on Alcohol Project was developed and distibuted during May and August 2007. This has been done to encourage members of the public to stop and think about the impact alcohol misuse has on the emergency services and the wider community. Latest figures tell us that in the month of August a staggering 54% of arrests were alcohol related (161 from a total of 297) and attendances at the 4 Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) totalled 114. The issue of members of the community attending local MIUs under the influence is currently being progressed by MIU Manager Hazel Simm. Hazel is currently establishing links with Tayside Alcohol Problem Service (TAPS) to ësee how we can interface with their service. The plan is to support and empower staff to signpost patients as appropriate to services such as TAPS.í |
