Answer
Hi Louise, thanks for writing in. It seems like you are taking stock of your lifestyle and wondering what it's all about. From what you've said it sounds like you aren't feeling good about getting drunk when you're out. Do you feel that you need to be out drinking alcohol in order to meet someone? It's okay to meet someone when you're on a night out but if you're drunk you might end up with someone that you wouldn't be attracted to if you were sober. It can also put your safety at risk. Alcohol can help us to feel relaxed and more confident but if we don't drink sensibly it can affect our judgement, causing us to make decisions that we wouldn't normally make. This is where it can get tricky in terms of meeting a potential boyfriend.
Drinking sensibly helps you to stay in control of your actions when you're out, which also makes it more likely you'll have a good night. Do you feel that you could give this a try? The benefits of drinking in moderation are that you can still enjoy yourself, be yourself and feel in control of your actions and not have to deal with a hangover the next day. To give you an idea the safe recommended drinking limits for adults women are 14 units, spread over the week. There is one unit in a 25cl pub measure of spirits and around 9 or 10 units in a standard bottle of wine. It can be hard to limit the amount that you drink, especially if your friends are drinking over the limit as well, but there's support out there to help you. When you're out drinking, it's important be aware of your personal safety. Stick with your friends when you're out and always get a taxi (from a known taxi company) home at the end of the night. There's lots of helpful information about alcohol and safety at the website link below. For general support and advice about alcohol related issues you can also contact Drinkline on 0800 7 314 314. I hope this helps Louise, if there's anything I haven't covered let me know. Feel free to use this site anytime with any questions or concerns you have.
