oh no its monday again and i cant face it cos i have been drinking mountains of booze

Answer

Thanks very much for your question. It sounds as though your weekend drinking is starting to spill out onto your working week.

Alcohol can cause a range of problems, including difficulty within the work place. Each year a huge number of working days a lost due to the after effects of drinking and this is something that employers generally treat very seriously. You haven't said why you are 'drinking mountains of booze' and people use alcohol in a variety of different ways - for example as part of a busy social life or as a way of coping with the stresses of life.

If you feel that your drinking is beginnin to have an impact on your working week you may want to consider reducing your intake. The sensible drinking guidlines for adult men is 21 units, spread over the week with no more than 3-4 units being consumed at any one time. To give you an idea a pint of ordinary strength larger contains just over 2 units. For adult women this limit is a bit less, 14 units spread over the week with no more than 2-3 units at any one time. Again to give you an idea a small pub measure of spirits (25ml) is 1 unit, an average glass of wine is slightly over 2 units. I have included a link to an on-line unit calculator below. You may find it useful as it is an easy and private way to add up the total amount of units you are drinking. I have also included two other links which will provide you with some general advice about alcohol use and some more specific advice geared at employers/ employees. If you feel you would like to speak to someone face to face Tayside Council on Alcohol provide a confidential service across the Tayside are - their details can be found in the services section. You could also approach your GP for some information and advice.
