Question
Is it necessary to access the GP for services as, during recent application for services via the GP, the attitude received was less than conducive. Surely many would appreciate the difficulties surrounding alcohol dependency especially GP's or, am I making a wrong assumption? I feel that in 2009, services should be easier to access as individuals with mental health issues find integrating difficult enough without feeling unsupported by "the professionals".
Answer
Hi Jane, Thanks very much for your question. I'm sorry you have found your GPs response unhelpful.
There are a coupld of other, non-medical services you could try. Tayside Council on Alcohol provides 1-1 counselling for individuals struggling to cope with an alcohol problem. You will find contact details in the services section. There is also Alcoholics Annonymous. Alternatively, if your GP is part of a larger practice, you could explore the possibility of seeing another of the GPs in that practice?
Good luck, whichever path you choose, and if you feel we can be of further help please feel free to post another question.
